A little bit about me
My name is Anna, and I live on a small farm, together with my husband Steffen, and my daughter Papaya.
I am a veterinarian, working as a surgeon, on a large small animal hospital in Køge.
All my spare time, I use with my beloved ponies.
Activities
My ponies are mainly used for breeding and showing, since thats where my interest lies.
My daughter Papaya also competes with the ponies, in different utility classes, like jumping by hand, agility, handler classes ect.
We are very active in the show ring, and thus we are away 10-15 weekends each year, for shows, assesments ect.
In the last years, I have mainly been showing in Sweeden, since I think they have a really great system, where all the results are registered in the studbook.
Also there are a lot more mini breeders in Sweeden, making it a lot more fun, to have someone to compete with.
Finally the sweedish judges, also seem to prefer the type of pony I myself enjoy.
I really enjoy meeting up with other shetland pony enthusiasts, and talking about this lovely breed.
Besides the shows and assesments, I also try to take several trips every year, to gather inspiration. I especially love going to Holland for stud visits, and to watch shows ect.
This has definately helped guide me, and help me find the type of pony I like.
Shady Acres Mini Shetlands
Was founded in 2009, when I bought my very first shetland pony. Zilver Sun v.d. Nijkamphoeve.
More quickly followed, and today, the stud consists of about 50 mini shetland ponies, in many different colours.
In the last few years, the stud has had a bit of a transformation. This has happened, because I have become more aware, of the type of pony I would like to breed. Therefore I have been changing a lot of my original breeding material, keeping those, that are more suited to my type. Most of my new breeding material has been bought in the Netherlands, and I am beginning to have a well rounded flock of minis, true to my type of pony.
My beloved Zilver Sun is still with me, and fits right in!
Breeding Goals
My goal is to combine quality and colour, in breeding mini shetland ponies.
I put a lot of emphasis on movements, wanting to breed beautifully moving ponies.
I also wan’t to breed ponies, with nice long lines, especially for the mares, who need to look feminine. I love a well set front, with good lenght of rein, and an excellent topline.
I find it important to keep the small pony heads, with big widely spaced eyes and small and alert ears, and also long and profuse hair, since I think these characteritics are very important for the breed type.
I am very fascinated with the duth type of shetland pony, since I think they combine many of the things, I emphasise mostly in the breed standard.
I also think The Netherlands, are one of the countries that have mannaged to uniform the type of the breed the most.
